Highpoint Market Report

Highpoint Market Report

Posted by Magnolia Hall on Oct 20th 2015

We just returned from the furniture market in Highpoint, NC.  You never know what you will find at each market.  It could be a “boy, I didn’t find anything exciting” market, or a “Wow! There are a lot of new things we can offer our customers!” market.  So, which kind of market was it?

Before I answer that, I have to tell you about our drive to the market from Jasper, Ga.   In markets past, we have taken the boring interstate route, right up I-85 into South, and the North Carolina.  But, one year we decided to try something different.  We drove up on the state Hwy 515 corridor, which runs due-north through Ellijay, Blue Ridge, and Hiawasee.  Then we go over the Blue Ridge Mountain range, right down into Asheville, NC.  What a spectacular drive!  And this time of year was breathtaking, with the green in the leaves vacating to reveal the beautiful fall colors!  Anyway, back to the market.

Drive to Highpoint

We were pleasantly surprised to find a number of exciting new groups that we will soon be offering!  While visiting one furniture maker that we have worked with for many years, we saw some new bedrooms and dining rooms that we know you will like.  Another design-based furniture maker that we have known for many years has just designed a new chair, which they copied from a classic Victorian design.  Then they up-scaled the size, to accommodate today’s taste.  To make it even more interesting, they showed us some exquisite vintage Italian fabrics that would showcase this chair.  But, we have to take things one step at a time.  We’ll tell you more about it in a later post.

Finally, we met with one of our oldest furniture partners.  Over the years, their offerings have changed with the trends.  In recent years, they have not shown traditionally-based groups.  They opted to produce more transitional and contemporary designs.  This market, however, they showed us several groups that hearkened back to the days when their line featured more of Magnolia Hall’s romantic style.

So, after reviewing what we saw, we would have to say that this fall Highpoint market was a winner!  It’s encouraging to see the classic designs of romantic furniture are still alive.  And even though they may not be as popular as in times past, they will never go away altogether.  We look forward to preparing and presenting these new finds to you in the days ahead.
