Dorothea Brooke Parlor
The Empire or Classic Revival Style exerted a strong influence over early Victorian design. The result in furniture was a look that was balanced, symmetrical and delicate. The classical heritage can be seen in acanthus leaf carving at the crests and aprons of the sofa, love seat and chair. The S-curved arms add another timeless and elegant touch. The untufted backs allow for an uninterrupted display for the many luxurious tapestries and brocades that are available for this group. The overall effect is one of dignity and grace. In this grouping we have selected tables and mirrors that make perfect companion pieces. In keeping with the venerable tradition of Victorian furniture manufacture, the frames of the sitting group are built of solid beechwood and feature extensive carving throughout. The upholstery is hand-sewn and finished off with a heavy cord trim. The thick, high density foam on the backs and the deep loose cushions on the seats provide optimum support and comfort. This collection is available in 18 premium Italian fabrics. Shown in the dark fruitwood finish, the parlor also comes in mahogany, lacatta, antique gold and white/gold finishes.
